I think my VPS has been compromised. What can I do?

Problem:

I think my VPS has been compromised. What can I do?

Solution:

In the event that your server is compromised, the Administrative staff will disable your VPS immediately to protect the network. You will then have the option to to either reformat your existing VPS environment to its original default state or have a new VPS environment built. A $50 Administrative fee will apply for this service. Please understand that all data will be lost. As a courtesy, we will provide access to the data on the effected VPS for 7 days so you can recover any data that may be present.

OLM will not troubleshoot or attempt to fix the compromised scripts, system or domain files since it is very resource intensive and often not successful. Very often when a server is compromised there are residual effects that may surface well after the initial problem has been resolved, which is why it is best to reformat the hard drive space and start fresh. It is always highly suggested that you keep local backup copies of all important files, scripts or customizations that you have implemented on your server. Also, it is very important that you apply all security updates and patches as they are released.
